Life Disc 4 Life is a nature documentary made by the BBC and narrated by David Attenborough. It is an example of an expository documentary.

. The documentary starts in the depths of the sea, David Attenborough throws out numerous facts like these hydrothermal vents spew out super-heated water at 450 degrees centigrade, Attenborough obviously doent know this of the top of his head but the documentary is presented as he does and is all knowledgeable, it is known as playing the role of God. Attenborough is heard all the way through the documentary but is never shown adding to his God-like existence. The images and montage of clips we are shown constantly illustrates the point that Attenborough makes, when he talks about the flourishing life deep under the surface we are shown thousands of starfish and water urchins in a time lapse technique. This technique helps with the continuity of the documentary and prevents it from becoming disfigured. The audience are talked to directly by the Attenborough and predominately uses a friendly, informal tone when discussing nature, this tone builds a relationship with the audience, makes them feel increasingly comfortable and accepting of the point of view being indirectly put upon the audience.
