Jordan Francis Evaluation My media product challenges the conventions of a real magazine as the cover doesnt follow any

layout patterns, it is designed in such a way that it looks different and stands out from other magazines and this is largely due to the mise-en-scene of the image and the position the layout is in, this has meant that all the text has to be set out around the centralised image. In other traditional magazines you often see the image covering the whole front page but this layout has challenged this pattern set by real magazines. On my magazines contents page I feel I have developed the conventions set by magazines. On the contents page I have used simple design ideas that have slightly developed the contents page. With the main image being cropped and Masthead running through it and a type of key made with the colours matching the text for different articles. I feel my magazine represents the Sixth Form in a formal, clean style with an edge and twist. The colour scheme sets this idea up as the colour majorly used is variants of blue throughout the contents and front cover but then we see the use of red and yellow which adds a twist to representation of the sixth form. Also the image represents the Sixth Form in a comical manner suggesting that they can have a laugh, dressing up as an old fashioned school teacher highlights this. My magazine wouldnt be produced or distributed through a real media institution but it would be distributed through the school. The primary audience for my magazine is Sixth Form students, the main articles are going to be on Sixth Form life but also I feel it could attract younger pupils who are unsure what Sixth Form is like and the magazine would be a useful insight. I attracted the audience through the design and layout of the image it is pleasing on the eye and also the content that is listed on the front cover is diverse from a Shakespeare play to a trip to Aston Villas training ground. The trips shown are of a variety so suggests there is something for everyone in the magazine. Another attraction of the magazine is the language used it formal yet easy to relate to from the position of a Sixth Former. In my preliminary I learnt how to use borders in Microsoft Publisher as well as brushing up my skills on the program. On Macromedia Fireworks I learnt how to get rid of a background of an image and I learnt how to crop a certain area of an image not the whole image in Paint. From the preliminary task I also have learnt about conventions of a magazine and how to attract a potential customer by using, developing or challenging these patterns set by magazine institutions.
