Compare/contrast aerobic/anaerobic respiration.

Aerobic respiration is the process that occurs when oxygen is present while anaerobic respiration is the process that occurs when no oxygen is present. Glucose is broken down into pyruvate in both, meaning glycolysis takes place in both. Both anaerobic and aerobic respiration take place in the cytoplasm, however, aerobic respiration also takes place in the mitochondria. Aerobic respiration releases large amounts of energy whereas anaerobic respiration releases a small amount. Anaerobic respiration in plants produces ehtanol (and carbon dioxide) while in animals it produces lactic acid. In aerobic respiration, none of these products are produced, instead it produces carbon dioxide, water and energy Substrate- substance that something reacts with (glucose is a substrate) Compare contrast respiration and photosynthesis.
