Shark detections occur when an acoustically-tagged shark swims within approximately 400-500 metres of a receiver. Yellow dots indicate satellite-linked active acoustic receivers (VR4G). Detection data are transmitted via satellite to Department of Fisheries, where they are processed for notification. White dots indicate passive sub-sea acoustic receivers (VR2W). Detection data are not transmitted; the information is stored on the unit. These receivers need to be recovered periodically so that the stored data can be downloaded and receivers serviced.
