You are invited to apply for a scholarship made possible by the Tom and Karen Flad Fund in Italian in Memory of Giovanna Jennie Sanquedolce Barbera and Sarah Barbera Flad The $1,500 Scholarship will be awarded to a student of Italian planning to participate in a Penn State summer program (Todi or Reggio Calabria) during Summer 2013. In making the award, preference will be given to Italian majors, then Italian minors, followed by those in the early stages of their Italian language programs who have demonstrated genuine interest in pursuing an Italian major or minor. Criteria: In order to be considered, students should submit an application in written or spoken Italian. The application can take the form of an essay of approximately 2-3 pages, or a video or multimedia presentation of comparable length. The application will be judged by a 3-member committee, comprised of Penn State Italian faculty members, on the basis of the students knowledge of the Italian language, enthusiasm for further study of Italian culture, academic performance in previous Italian classes, creativity, and an explanation of scal need, if applicable. Deadline: Applications, along with a current copy of the students audit, must be received by Friday, January 25, 2013, via e m a i l a t t a c h m e n t t o D r. F i o n a S t e w a r t a t fms15@psu.edu. The winner will be notied by Friday February 22. Up to two alternates will also be named. N.B.
