The purpose of running SDS-PAGE analysis on the samples is to separate proteins by the molecular weights of their separated/denatured subunits. The SDS is a strong detergent that denatures proteins and allows them to unfold to a more simple structure, where the proteins can be easily separated into parts. It also prevents any disulfide bonds from forming between subunits. 2.
