    Tony Youngs Legacy of Leadership Councilmember Gloria Comments on Council Presidents Resignation
    SAN DIEGO, CA (November 16, 2012) Councilmember Todd Gloria today issued the following statement after Council President Tony Youngs announcement that he was resigning to lead the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Tony Young has been the leader San Diego needed to guide our City through a very difficult decade. As the Council President, he has been a calm and thoughtful presence at City Hall that has kept our focus on fiscal reform and restoration of neighborhood services. The Citys improved finances and bipartisan culture are a testament to Tonys leadership and effectiveness. Personally, Tony has been a trusted colleague and friend. I will always be grateful for his mentoring of me over many years and entrusting me with the role of the Councils Budget Chairman. I learned a lot from Tony and will continue to employ his lessons in the years to come. We will all miss Tony Young at City Hall. As he transitions to his new role at the Red Cross, he does so secure in the knowledge that he leaves behind a City government that is better than he found it and a City Council that is committed to continuing his good work. ###
