Todd Gloria Re-Elected San Diego City Council President Gloria to Remain Interim Mayor
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 9, 2013) Todd Gloria was re-elected President of the San Diego City Council today with the unanimous support of his colleagues. The Council President presides over City Council meetings, sets the Councils docket, recommends membership for Council Committees and representation for external organizations, and assumes the role of interim mayor when the City is without an elected mayor. Having the confidence of my fellow councilmembers and the support of so many San Diegans is humbling, and I am proud to continue leading the City, said Interim Mayor Gloria. Together, we have made tremendous progress in the past three months, and more hard work is ahead. Gloria was first elected Council President on December 3, 2012, and took over as the interim mayor on August 30, 2013. When a new mayor is sworn in after the February election, Gloria will remain Council President and the representative for District Three. He was nominated by Council President Pro Tem Sherri Lightner. The City Council elects a Council President annually. Gloria will propose City Council committee assignments and appointments to external organizations, which will be considered by the City Council next week. ###
