LOCAL LABOR LEADERS REACT TO GARDNERS RUN FOR U.S. SENATE

Gardners voting record shows his support for politically extreme policies Denver Following Rep. Cory Gardners recently announced candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Mark Udall, the officials from the Colorado AFL-CIO made the following statement about Gardners history of voting against the best interests of Colorado working families. Throughout his years in the House, we have seen Cory Gardner cater to wealthy corporations and GOP ideologues instead of putting Colorados middle class first. He routinely supported budgets that contained deep cuts to Medicaid, ended Medicare as we know it, and gutted funds for programs that provide a safety net to low-income families, children and seniors. Rather than pass an extension on the Bush tax cuts for middle class workers, he voted against it because his party wanted to give cuts to the richest 2 percent, stated Colorado AFL-CIO Executive Director Mike Cerbo. Coloradans cant afford more of his disastrous leadership in the Senate. Cory Gardner has sided with the most extreme members of the Republican party in their indulgent political games. He has wasted time with multiple pointless efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, attempted to block funding the DACA program for DREAMers, and participated in the political grandstanding that led to the disastrous government shutdown, said national Colorado AFL-CIO President Cindy Kirby. Gardner has done absolutely no favors for working people in Colorado and across the country. Cerbo added: Republicans may find Cory Gardner to be a slicker candidate than Ken Buck, but its obvious he embodies the same anti-worker, anti-middle class philosophy as Buck. Colorado voters already rejected that outlook nearly 4 years ago, and they will continue to reject it when they go to the ballot box this year. ### The Colorado AFL-CIO is comprised of 310,000 Colorado voters striving to keep Colorado working and the middle class strong.
