Heredity and Hormones

Title: Heredity and Hormones Submitted by: Travis Hance Course: BEH225 Instructor: Gigi Sofia University of Phoenix

Heredity and Hormones As the scientific examination of how humans behave, there has been a

natural progression towards the analysis of genetics, how a person is raised and in what environment, and the recent nature verses nurture debate. Researchers have obviously focused their investigations upon whether genetics move an individual to act in a certain way, or whether their early family life molds them to become the individual they are. The problem that I see is that this is a relatively simplistic approach. It identifies the initial building blocks for who we are as individuals. Both genetics and upbringing play a part in the development that results in how we act and feel. It should be noted that there are other factors that enter into play as well. Our relationships in life modify and mold who we will become on a daily basis. Our lifestyle and diet affect our mental state, our hormone and testosterone levels, our energy levels, and much more. Habits learned over the course of our life play a large part. Therefore I believe that heredity, our genes do play an initial part in the success or failure of our ultimate outcome. While we seem to be motivated to certain behaviors based on our heredity and upbringing, the choice to develop a good life develops into a balanced hormonal level. This is a level of well being that enables success, and should be the real goal that all of strive for, a healthy happy life.
