ORGANISATION: * 54x30yrd field split into 3 sections (A and B represent two end zones) indicated by cones. * 5vs5 +2 Neutrals that are positioned in the end zones. * Middle zone is approximately 30x50yrds (can be adjusted depending on the desired intensity of the exercise). * Yellow vs Red. * 20 minutes (3 rest periods of 2 mins at 5 minute intervals). INSTRUCTIONS: * * Teams attempt to play a pass into both end zones whilst maintaining possession. This earns them 1pt. The ball must be transferred all the way from one end zone neutral player to the other end zone neutral player and back without the other team intercepting the ball. The Neutral players are restricted to 2 touch play.

Neutral players cannot pass to each other (i.e. one long ball). * Following a point being scored the team in possession should attempt to transfer the ball in the same manner for another point. * If the defending team gains possession they attempt to score the other team defends. * The game is continuous. * Balls played out on the sides are reintroduced via kick-ins or can be reintroduced by a coach playing a new ball in to an open on the * team that did not play the ball out. Teams can score in either direction. * 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) N1 starts the game (from Zone A) by passing into Y1. Y1 passes into Y2. Y2 passes into the neutral (target) player N2 in Zone B. Using a maximum of 2 touches, N2 passes back out to the yellow team to attempt to return the ball back to the end zone it originally came from. Y3 returns the ball to N1 for 1pt.

SCORING: Passing the ball all the way to one end zone and then back. KEY COACHING POINTS: 1) Players need to to be aware of the game conditions at all times. 2) Players should be working between 80-100% of their maximum heart rate (MaxHR). 3) Defending players need to step up the field and support early. 4) Look to play into the neutral players early if the opportunity exists. 5) The principles of possession should be applied (i.e. good supporting angles, pace of play, etc). 6) Immediate support for the neutral players is vital to maintaining possession. PROGRESSIONS 1) 2) All players from the team in possession need to be in the attacking (of the side they are attacking) to pass the ball into a neutral player. Zone A and Zone B are increased in size and the playing area is split into thirds. The neutral players are removed (or can play in the central area with the team in possession). Teams now score by transferring the ball from one end zone to the other with the condition that all the players are in the end zones when they have possession in there. The team is not allowed to progress to the other end zone before all players are in the current zone.

VARIATIONS: 1) 2) 3) 4) Modify the rest periods to vary the intensity of the practice. Reduce to 1 minute interval breaks. Increasing the dimensions of the field will also increase the intensity of the exercise. Allow only 1 touch play for the neutrals in the end zones. Ask the players to match up in man marking. Coach can either assign two players on opposing teams to mark each other the players can be asked to change their style of defending to reflect this condition.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS: The exercise intensity should be highly than that of a normal training match as a result of the conditions applied to the game. Continue to add conditions to the game if the desired work rate (intensity) is not being performed by the players. Encourage the group of players to take their pulses and calculate their heart rate during the breaks and immediately after the exercise to check how hard they have been working.
