Backup Program: Copies and compresses files and folders into a single file.
Backup File: compressed file Backup Medium: storage device

Backup Strategies:
Full Backup:
Compressed copy of ALL files Foundation of backup strategy
Must have full backup prior to any Differential or Incremental

Wouldnt want to perform daily (timing issue)

Partial Backup:
follows full backup and only copies files that have changed
Differential Backup: only files that have changed since last full backup. Incremental Backup: only files that have changed since last full or Partial backup.

Backup Facts:
Differential backup is quicker to restore than Incremental backup. Incremental backup is quicker to backup than Differential backup. Backup files do not have to be restored to their original location.

Restore order:
Full, Differential then Incremental

Copy vs. Backup
Copying can create multiple files, backing up creates a single compress file. Copy occupies same space as original, backup is usually much smaller than original Backups are much quicker Copy cannot split files, backup can Backup can accommodate changed files Backup files are easier to recover
