Outline for CI Workshop Youth Focused

Identifying Problems a) What does mentoring a younger person mean to you? b) Would you need training in identifying problems/issues c) What are some of the cues that make you think umm? (partying, missing classes, not completing hw assignments, time management issues. etc) d) What are some of the issues that you would feel comfortable talking to your mentee about and assisting your mentee in overcoming issues e) At what point do you feel your mentee should take more responsibility for their success or failure? Resources a) What are some resources within your college that you utilize b) How can CI help with building resources? (Reentry, CUNY etc) c) Who is on your team; what role do they play in your life; d) Would you be able to express the importance of having a team of supporters to your mentee e) What are the resources that you will need to be the best mentor that you could be? Engaging Mentors a) What activities could you do with your mentee? b) What activities could you suggest to your mentee? (keeping free events in mind) c) Could you include them in your work? (radio, speaking to youth, advocacy, reentry events) d) What are some of the boundaries that need to be in place in order to make this a successful relationship Utilizing this experience to forward education/career a) Reflecting on this experience through journal writing b) Through course work( research methods, data analysis, field work/intern, community organizing, process/program evaluating etc) c) Public Speaking (advocacy, campaigns, conferences, organizing, policy)
