Jean began teaching as Miss Anderson in Lapeer in 1942 and married Stewart in 1950. score of 20 (or its equivalent)
She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Eastern Michigan University. Her
strong interest was in grammar, American Literature and later in her career began a read-
ing program geared for speed and increased comprehension. Jean was often seen at the
concession stands Friday nights at the football and basketball games to help the students
raise money. She was also deeply committed to helping students get scholarships to fur-
ther their education.

Jean and Stewart were both resolved to help students learn to the best of their abilities.
They encouraged the struggling students and challenged the gifted ones. It is hoped by
the foundation and the Thiemkey family that the recipient of the scholarship will share in
the commitment to education that Jean and Stewart Thiemkey did.
