ABSTRACT

Survival and Growth Performance of Teak (Tectona grandis Linn.) as Affected by Different Potting Media by Ivy. P. Dalo, Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Central Mindanao University, University Town, Musuan, Bukidnon. Major Adviser: Dr. Rico A. Marin

The effect of potting media on the survival and growth performance of teak seedlings was investigated. The study was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 10 samples per replication. The study was conducted in FRDD nursery from September 2011 to January 2012.

The result of the study indicated that diameter and height were significantly affected by the different potting media. The parameters that included percent survival, number of leaves, total biomass, root biomass, shoot biomass and root-shoot ratio did not show significant difference among treatments. The Treatment 2 (rice hull) was the highest among treatments with an average height and diameter of 35.44 cm and 0.60 cm respectively. The result shows that teak seedling would prefer to grow in a mixture of soil medium rather than pure soil.
