Here is Lonesome George at his home walking around #2 Lonesome George is a Pinta Island turtle and was the last of his kind. Scientists have not found another yet but still believe that there might be one out in the wild somewhere.

#1Lonesome George lived to be over 100 years old!

#3 Lonesome George weighed about 600lbs and was about 4ft tall. He was a big turtle!

The people that took care of him were always so nice to him. They helped him have a happy long life.

#4Lonesome Georges skin is a light brown color. His shell is a dark brown that changes colors in different spots.

#6 Sadly, Lonesome George died on June 25, 2012. Now his kind just might be entirely extinct.

#5 One day a scientist found Lonesome George while he was studying snails in 1972. There had not been aPinta Island turtle sighting since 1906.

#7 Lonesome Georges ancestors were once on a boat with sailors to become food for the crew. That is one of the reasons that Lonesome Georges kind became extinct.

#8 Lonesome Georges natural habitat was his great home in the Galapagos Islands. That are off the coast of Ecuador.

#10 Lonesome George got his name from when he was discovered he was all alone and the last of his kind.

Still today people are searching for another of Lonesome Georges kind. Who knows if there is another one out there? If you ever go to the Galapagos Islands, always be sure to keep a close eye out for a turtle that looks like Lonesome George.
