SIMPLE SENTENCES

What is a sentence?
A SENTENCE IS A GROUP OF WORDS THAT EXPRESSES A COMPLETE THOUGHT.

What is a simple sentence?


A SIMPLE SENTENCE CONSISTS OF A SINGLE INDEPENDENT CLAUSE=
ONE SUBJECT AND ONE VERB

What is a subject?
A SUBJECT TELLS WHO OR WHAT IS BEING TALKED ABOUT IN THE SENTENCE.

LETS LOOK AT 3 EXAMPLES FROM PAGE 218


THE SUBJECT CAN BE EITHER A NOUN: NAMES A PERSON PLACE OR THING (MARISSA, LIBRARIAN) OR A PRONOUN: TAKES THE PLACE OF A NOUN (I, YOU, HE, SHE, IT).

A SENTENCES SIMPLE SUBJECT IS JUST A NOUN OR PRONOUN

A SENTENCES COMPLETE SUBJECT IS THE SIMPLE SUBJECT ALONG WITH ALL THE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE IT

What is a verb?
THE VERB DESCRIBES WHAT THE SUBJECT IS DOING.

Which is the subject in these sentences?
