GRAMMAR: article the vs. no article


We use no article before plural nouns to refer to something generally, e.g., Companies today use new media. We use the + a singular noun to refer to one specific thing, e.g., He thought the cost of the camera was too high. We use the + a plural noun to refer to more than one specific thing, e.g., The videos have to be funny.

Direct and indirect questions

Direct and indirect questions


Direct questions are those you already know and use. What time is it? Indirect questions are used to ask in a more polite manner what one wants to know. Could you tell me what time it is?
