The infinitive is the base
form of a verb.

What is
infinitive?
In English, when we talk
about the infinitive we are
usually referring to the
present infinitive, which is
the most common
What is infinitive?
• The present infinitive has two
forms:
• the infinitive with -to = to + base
• The infinitive without -to = base

To-infinitive infinitive without to

to remember remember
1. The to-infinitive to indicate the
purpose or intention of an action.

• Why do you think there is so much litter around?

• What kind of problems does it create?

• What do you think can be done about it?

TASK D
D.Discuss
• Why do you think there is so much litter around?
I THINK THAT WE ARE PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM OF
LITTER. BOTH DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS LITTER WITHOUT EVEN
THINKING ABOUT IT. THE FACT THAT THERE AREN’T ENOUGH RUBBISH
BINS AVAILABLE OBVIOUSLY MAKES THINGS WORSE. (ADD ONE MORE
POINT)
TASK D

D.Discuss
• What kind of problems does it create?
WELL, THE FACT THAT OUR PARKS AND BENCHES ARE OVERFLOWING
WITH RUBBISH MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR US TO ENJOY THEM. THESE
PLACES, AS WELL AS THE STREETS IN SOME AREAS, SMELL BAD AND
UGLY TO LOOK AT. MOST IMPORTANTLY HOWEVER THEY ARE A THREAT
TO THE HEALTH OF THE LOCALS AND ANIMALS LIVE THERE (ADD ONE
MORE POINT)
TASK D
D.Discuss
• What do you think can be done about it?
THERE ARE VARIOUS SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM. ENVIROMENTAL
AWARENESS EDUCATION CAN PLAY A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE BY
INFORMING BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF
LOOKING AFTER THE ENVIROMENT IN WHICH THEY LIVE.IN THIS WAY,
MORE PEOPLE MAY BE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PART IN RECYCLING
PROGRAMMES WHICH HELP TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF RUBBISH WE
PRODUCE.( ADD ONE MORE POINT)
