• SHORT COMMUNICATIVE MESSAGE

• 1. The PT3 English Paper 2 is divided into two parts :

• a) Part 1 - Short Communicative Message
• b) Part 2 – Note Expansion
• PART 1: SHORT COMMUNICATIVE MESSAGE
• The marks allocated for this question is 20 marks.
• Students are advised to spend 25 minutes for this section.
• Students are required to write a short communicative message
( inabout 80 words) , leaving a reply to a message , note , email or
postcard
• Please make sure to write in between of 80 – 90 words so that there
would be sufficient time to spend for Part 2 .
• Read the title of the question properly and look out for the key point
in the title.
• Make sure there is no repeated elaboration and the answer is relevant
to the question given
• Read the message from your father.

Hi,

I am thinking of getting your brother a birthday present. Would he like a camera, a laptop or a
playstation – or maybe I should get him something else? Which one do you think he would like?
Let me know what you think and suggest me one.

In about 80 words, write a message to your father about your suggestion/choice.

SAMPLE ANSWER:

• Hi Dad,
• In my opinion, I think you should get him a laptop for his birthday. As he is in his upper secondary,
he would definitely need a laptop to complete his assignments and school projects. Besides that,
he will also be able to surf the internet to gather relevant information regarding his studies. Since
mum bought him a DSLR camera previously, he might not like a camera as a gift again and he is
more of an outdoor games kind of a person, so gifting him a playstation might not be worth it.

• Hi Suzy,
I believe you are on the right track. Besides exercising, you can start eating healthy. If you are
hungry between meals , have a healthy snack like fruits or nuts. Another way is drink a lot of water.
You must drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
