All ideas are fully elaborated. Position is clearly demonstrated. Clear understanding of task, opinion expressed with critical context by addressing multiple counter positions and/or evaluating implications and/or complications. Tight control over language use. Varied sentence structure. Engaging tone. Few, if any, errors to distract reader. Good (12-13) Organized but may have minor lapses in unity or coherence. Transitions evident. Usually has clear focus. Order supports meaning. Development of ideas is specific and logical. Most ideas are elaborated. Position is apparent but not concrete. Shows an understanding of task, opinion expressed with adequate reasons given, and adequate recognition of counter arguments. Some sentence variety and appropriate word choice. Uneven tone. Lapses in writing conventions are not overly distracting. Fair (10-11) IBC format is basic and/or lapses in format and focus. Sporadic use of transitions. Order does not effectively support meaning. Development of ideas is adequate. Some ideas are repetitious or underdeveloped. Position argued without much depth. Some understanding of task, opinion expressed with no reasons given, acknowledgement of counter arguments. Below Standard (0-9) IBC format has serious errors. Skeletal organization with brevity. Order is random and detracts from meaning. Ideas are thinly developed or presented without support. Position is ineffectively argued. Weak understanding of task, may or may not express opinion (no reasons given), no recognition of counter arguments Weak or absent tone. Vocabulary limited. Limited control over writing conventions may make the writing difficult to understand.
