1.The Environment protection
Act-1986

2.The air (prevention & control
of pollution) Act-1981
 Prescribed level of SPM , lead , Co , So2 , No,
Voc.
 Pollution Control Board’s (PCB) have been set
up to measure pollution levels by the govt. .
 Air testing ,air sampling to measure the pollution
levels.
 State pollution control boards (SPCB) concerning
the prevention & control of air pollution.
Penalties for offence:-
 Punishable with imprisonment for 3months or
Rs.10,000.

 Additional fine Rs.5000 per day if they


continue the offence
3.The Water (prevention & control
of pollution) Act-1974
 Prevention of pollution by industries,
agricultural & household waste water.

 Central pollution control boards (CPCB), state


pollution control boards (SPCB) have been set
up for the prevention & control of water
pollution.
Penalties for offence:-
 Punishable with imprisonment for 3months or
Rs.10,000.

 Additional fine Rs.5000 per day if they


continue the offence.
4.The Wild life protection Act-1972
 Act of poaching is prohibited.
 Prevents the commercial use of resources
local people.
 Penalties for offences:-
 3yrs of imprisonment or Rs.25,000.
 Use of meat of animals shall punishable with
imprisonment for 1yr and may extend to 6yrs
and a fine of Rs.25,000.
5.Forest Conversation act-1980
 Control of deforestation.
 Preservation of biological diversity and
genetic resources.
 Should not set fire to a reserved forest.
 Felling , collecting timber or any forest
product is punishable with imprisonment of
6months or with a fine of Rs.500 or both.
 Damage to the protected forests is punishable
with imprisonment of 6 months or Rs.500 fine.
6.Environment impact assessment
(EIA)
 Ministry of environment & forest (MOEF) has
projects that need clearance on environmental
grounds from EIA.
 Projects such as roads, railways, dams may
also effect the lives of the people. this must be
addressed in the EIA.
 Green field projects must also apply for
clearance.
