Dinosaurs

In the beginning
From 250 to 200 million years ago all continents where bounded together as a mega continent. That we call Pangea. In that time was already live. For example little reptiles. The ancestors where possible four footed reptiles. We think so because they had placed their paws underneath there body instead of beside like salamanders do. Animals of prey came later they where two footed animals. The first dinosaur lived about 230 million years ago. In the period of 200 to 145 million years ago, Pangea started falling apart. Thats when the dinosaurs divided over different areas and the continents became warmer or colder places. From that time dinosaurs adjusted and changed. The next period was 145 to 65 million years ago. In that period all continents where apart. In that period were a lot of new dinosaurs born. So far archaeologist has found over 1.100 kinds of dinosaurs. They are small reptiles.

The life of the dinosaur

Every dinosaur had a different live. One lived on land or in the air, but we also had dinosaurs that lived in water. Also the life of a dinosaurs where different. One was a herbivore they eat plants and the other is a carnivore they eat meat (dinosaurs). The ages of the dinosaurs is very varied. The big dinosaurs lived about 100 years or more and the small dinosaurs lived not very long. How do we know? We know because the archaeologist inspects the bones of the dinosaurs. The archaeologist can see the inside of the bones and see growth rings of the bones. Through that they know how old the dinosaurs are. The big herbivores eat 2.000 kilo plants and drank 2.000 litres of water. For a carnivore as example a T-rex (Tyrannosaurus) is it not very clear how much he drinks or eats.

Some dinosaurs weigh 2.000 kilo or under the 2.000 kilo and the very big dinosaurs can weigh 20.000. So we now that every dinosaur is different.

The end of the dinosaurs

But the dinosaur time finished. About 65 million years ago a big disaster happens. Something happened that removed life. It was probably a meteorite attack. No animal didnt survive the heat and the earthquake. Every animal was vulnerable, but the small dinosaurs under the 5 kilo probably survived. The insects also survived. In the time of 65 to about 10 million years ago insects had enough space for changing. Most of the dinosaur birds survived because they flew away. The birds we have now descend from the dinosaurs and the crocodiles descend from the dinosaurs. So in fact not all dinosaurs died!
