CCSS.Math.Content.HSF-IF.C.7 Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated cases. o CCSS.Math.Content.HSF-IF.C.7a Graph linear and quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima, and minima.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF-IF.C.8a Use the process of factoring and completing the square in a quadratic function to show zeros, extreme values, and symmetry of the graph, and interpret these in terms of a context.

Behavioral/Objective Students will be able to graph quadratic equations using graphing calculators and notice changes caused by different constants and coefficients. Objective/Purpose Do you remember when we talked about tossing a ball and the jumping of frogs, fleas, and basketball players? When we did those activities, we spent some time looking at the graphs and tables for their equations. Today we are going to explore how the graphs change when the equations change. Anticipatory Set As a class, discuss how we know when we are dealing with two different quadratic equations. Students will predict how graphs will change when the constants and coefficients change in the quadratic equation.

Thinking Levels By the end of this lesson, students should have reached the analysis level. They should be able to compare equations and point out the effects the differences between the equations have on the graphs and tables.

Learning Styles and/or Accommodations Students will be instructed on how to use the calculators efficiently. Students will be working in pairs. Method and Materials Graphing Calculators Investigating Quadratics Handout Closure Compare predictions to actual results. Discuss what occurs to the graphs when we use more than one change in the equation. Exit slips/Fogginess - What was one thing you learned today? What part of the lesson are you still confused about?
