Unit: Printmaking Collagraphs

ART.VA.I.HS.1 Apply acquired knowledge and skills to the creative problem solving process. Behavioral/Objective Students will be able to successfully print a collagraph plate. Students will be able to safely and appropriately use a printmaking press. Anticipatory Set Discuss our plates and any changes that need to be made. Objective/Purpose For our last prints, I set up the press and ran your prints for you. This time, you should be able to do this for yourself. There is a lot of information that goes into this process, so I need everyone to take notes or at least pay very close attention. Input Task Analysis a. b. c. d. e. f. Thinking Levels By the end of this lesson, students should be at the Application level. They will be using their knowledge of printmaking and the printmaking press to run their own prints and possibly make an edition. Learning Styles and/or Accommodations If some students are able to complete the Independent Practice quickly, they should then attempt to run their prints with ink. Materials Collagraph plates Printmaking paper Printmaking press Felts Independent Practice Students will run a small edition of their collagraph plates without ink. They should focus on the texture and embossing that occurs with each pull. Closure Exit Slip Explain why we soak our paper before printing a collagraph.
