GLADSTONE OBSERVOR 20 March 2013

An artist's impression of the Glen Eden shopping centre. A PROPOSAL for a shopping centre at Glen Eden has been approved by Gladstone Regional Council. The shopping centre will include a supermarket, a mini major retail shop, speciality stores, office and amenities at 2 Sidey Close. The Glen Eden site is bounded by Gladstone Benaraby Rd to the east and Glen Eden Drive to the north, with access to the shopping centre from Glen Eden Drive and Sidey Close. The Department of Transport and Main Roads has stipulated various requirements for the Gladstone Benaraby Road/Glen Eden Drive intersection to be undertaken by the developer. Regional strategy portfolio spokesman Matt Burnett said the shopping centre was ideally situated for the growing community. "I grew up in Glen Eden and this parcel of land has been earmarked for commercial development since at least the early 1980s, so it's really pleasing to see the development progress," Cr Burnett said. The shopping centre will have 202 basement car parking spaces and 80 spaces at ground level. The council also recently approved two bus stops along Glen Eden Drive, about 180 metres from the proposed shopping centre.
