REVIEW ARTICLE TWO OF THE EFCA STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words
of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original
writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every
realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it
teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

4. Why is it important to state that God has spoken “in the Scriptures” over against that God has
spoken through the Scriptures?

5. How did we come to settle on the books that are found in the Old and New Testaments?

6. What does it mean that the Bible is “inspired”? (2 Timothy 3:16)

7. What does “inerrancy” mean? When it comes to believing in inerrancy, why do we say this
extends to the original writings? Do we have them, and if not, what is the importance of this
statement?
8. Is the Bible we have open tonight inspired and inerrant? Can it be trusted? Explain.

9. What is the difference between “general” and “special” revelation and what role does the Bible
play in this? Has “revelation” from God ceased?

10. We believe the Bible is the complete revelation of God’s will for salvation. Why do some groups
believe they need additional revelation? Can you list any of those groups and what that
“revelation” might be?

11. Does a person need to believe the Bible is God’s word (inspired and inerrant) in order to be a
Christian? Explain.
