A typical chain letter consists of a message that attempts to induce the recipient to make
a number of copies of the letter and then pass them on to as many recipients as possible
An epistle is a writing directed or sent to a person or group of people, usually a letter and
a very formal, often didactic and elegant one. The letters in the New Testament from
Apostles to Christians are usually referred to as epistles. Those traditionally attributed to
Paul are known as Pauline epistles and the others as "catholic" or general epistles.
A letter of credence is a formal letter sent by one head of state to another head of state
that formally grants diplomatic accreditation to a named individual (usually but not
always a diplomat) to be their ambassador in the country of the head of state receiving the
letter.
A letter of recall is the opposite, a letter sent from one head of state to another head of
state recalling an ambassador, either as a means of diplomatic protest or because the
diplomat is being reassigned elsewhere and is being replaced by another envoy.
A query letter is a formal letter sent to magazine editors, literary agents and sometimes
publishing houses or companies. Writers write query letters to propose writing ideas.
