What is CPR?

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation First aid technique to prevent cardio pulmonary arrest

2 goals- keep blood flowing through body/ keep air flowing in and out of lungs

When to do CPR
Unconscious Not Breathing No Pulse

Check for responsiveness Tap or gently shake victim Shout, Are you okay?

If you are with somebody else tell them directly to call 911

Roll person unto back

Do this by slowly pulling them towards you

Open airway and check for breathing To do this, place your ear over their mouth and nose to see if they are breathing Also look for the chest to rise or fall Place one hand on top of the head and use your other hand to support the chin Lift the jaw and tilt the head back to open the airway

Look, listen, and feel

Look at the chest to see if the person is breathing

Give 2 full breaths (2 seconds each) Keep head titled back Pinch nose shut

Put your mouth directly on the other persons mouth


Make sure their chest is rising while breathing

Look over the body to see if they are responsive

Place one hand on top of the other

Move your hands to the center part of the chest

To prevent slipping, move hands like shown

Do 15 compressions followed by 2 breaths Minimum of 60 compressions per minute Which is 4 cycles of 15 compressions and 2 breaths every minute If there is still no pulse continue CPR

When should I stop doing CPR?


The person recovers

An ambulance officer or doctor tells you to stop


It becomes impossible for you to continue

Is CPR all I can do?


Besides calling 911, yes

If you arent trained to do anything more you cant
