Lesson Plan #4 (ECED)

1.) Curriculum Standards Addressed:

K.RL.10: Reading: Literature- Range of Reading and level of Text Complexity 10. Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. 2.) Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will successfully be able to list ways they can stop bullying in their school. 3.) Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Before lesson: Ask each child, What is bullying? During lesson: During my instruction I will ask them questions about how the characters are bullying each other and test their knowledge on bullying. After lesson: The students will complete a large group activity where they will decide if during a certain scenario whether the person is a bully or a buddy. We will also write a sentence saying what we can do to stop bullying. 4.) Materials/Resources: -Pre/During/Post assessment charts -Lesson plan print out -Horton Hears a Who book By: Dr. Seuss -Horton Stuffed animal -Horton t-shirt -Scenario/writing Activity sheets -Pencils 5.) Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): Students should be able to already identify signs of bullying. 6.) Procedures: 1. Invite the class to the meeting rug by what table they are sitting at. 2. Show the class the book and tell them what we will be doing. (Let them know what they are about to do.) 3. Point out the author and illustrator of book. 4. Show the front cover, back cover, title page, and spine of the book to familiarize them with where they are on a book.

5. Begin reading the book. 6. While reading the book, talk about the ways in which the people from Whoville are being bullied. 7. After the book, discuss and ask questions about bullying and what you should do if you see someone being bullied. 8. Send the students back to their desks by the month of their birthday. 9. Ask the students to get out a pencil and write their name at the top of the activity sheet. 10. Read the directions to the activity to the class. 11. Have the students complete the scenario sheet as a class but separately write it on their paper. (I will read the scenarios out loud to them and they will circle whether the person is a bully or a buddy.) 12. Once they are finished with the scenarios, have them write a sentence on the back of the paper stating what they can do to stop bullying. 13. Have the students put their sheets in their cubbies by tables and return to their seats. 14. Pass around a sign that says, Mrs. Driggers Class is Bully Free! and let them sign it by showing they do not bully! 15. Turn the class back over to Mrs. Driggers. 7.) Accommodations: I will have KaMiyah, who wears glasses, to sit closer to the front of the rug where I will be displaying the book so that she will not have any trouble seeing the pictures or words. For early finishers, I will have them read a book out of their book baskets on their tables until we are ready to move on to the next steps in the lesson. 8.)
