Activity for 4th grade: Black History Month Activity 3rd Nine Weeks I.

Major Focus- Black History Month Summary: Carter G. Woodsons dream of recognizing the contributions of African Americans became a reality in 1926 when Black History Week was created. Decades later, this week long event was turned into annual month long celebration know as Black History Month. Every February, America observes Black History Month celebrating and honoring the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to its economic, cultural, spiritual, and political development. Activity Create a Movie Poster a. Students will design a movie poster about the contribution of the African American Texans Life b. Students will be expected to use the information from research to depict a scene from that persons life that identifies the contribution he/she made to society. Background scenes on the poster should include information and/or pictures to depict the early life and education/experiences of the feature person. c. See rubric below. (next page)
