METHOD OF CORROSION PROTECTION PROCESS (ZINC COATING) Corrosion Definitions:

It can be defined as wearing or alteration of a metal, either by direct chemical attack or by electrochemical reaction. The most common trade name is Steel Rust. The corrosive agents in the atmosphere such as Oxygen combined with Vaporized water, chloride and sulfide components caused the metal to rust.

Protection
Cable tray fabrication shall be made from a pre galvanized corrosion resistant sheet, Hot Dip Galvanized After Fabrication (HDGAF) and Aluminum alloys.

Processing Methods
Pre galvanized (Mill Galvanized) Source reference EN 10 - 142 Metal manufacturers immerse the Mild Steel rolls with fast and continuous motion in a molten zinc bath at a temperature 450 - 460C. The diffusion between Steel and Zinc forms a stable iron / Zinc alloy with pure zinc on the surface. The zinc coating (formation) have a thickness of 18 Microns per face or 275 g/m2 per double face (Flowered Pattern Finish) Contrary to a conventional belief, no corrosion is possible in sections of the metal when a galvanized sheet is sheared or punched. The protection of Iron is protected by the cell effect produced by the IRON ZINC ELECTROLYTIC SYSTEM or what is known as the Battery Phenomenon.

Hot Dip Galvanized After Fabrication (HDGAF)

Source reference ASTM 123/NFA 91 121 The Mild Steel (Raw materials) after the fabrication goes into cleaning and surface treatment by immersing the steel into an acoustic bath then fluxed and washed thoroughly then immersed into a molten Zinc bath for a short time period approximately 4 to 5 minutes that is the time where the Zinc react with the steel (Fe) and become bonded together. The finishing appearance and color may vary depending on the steel and its silicon or phosphorous contents. A normal color of dull grey or shiny is the indication of the saturated zinc coating and the thickness ranges from 49 - 60 microns and it can reach up to 110 - 120 micron depending on the steel content and reaction.
96

Electrostatic Powder Coating Paint

This phenomenon of a high voltage and low current charging method driven into the powder enables the powder to strongly adhere onto the surface. The dynamic step in achieving a very good protected surface is by having the surface cleaned, flushed, washed and free of oil By using a spray gun Venturi method powder /air mixture sprayed uniformly onto the surface then baked into a conventional oven with a temperature ranging from 185 C for about 15 to 20 minutes. The result is a very high durable surfaces and excellent protection with a thickness ranging from 70 to 80 micron.

Epoxy - Raisin Paint

This unique combination of a two component high build epoxy raisin and paint (Grey Color) make and excellent adhesion on steel, it forms a hard and tough coating corrosion resistant.

Cleaning Stage
The mild steel after fabrication to its last shape or form (cable tray, trunking and ladder) must be cleaned and free of any oils or greases, to achieve this, the first stage is to immerse the steel into a degreaser detergent bath then sprayed with a high pressure fresh water, then a gigh pressure air to drive all excess water out. A conventional oven is used to dry the steel and to have it free of water.

Painting Stage
In order to achieve a very high rust - preventing coating a primer must be applied to the steel. Using a two- component polyamide-cured primer containing zinc Phosphate as corrosion inhibiting pigment (Red Color), A minimum coating thickness of 40 microns when drying must be achieved despite whether you are using a Spray Gun, Brush or Roller. When the primer dried and fully cured the epoxy paint can be diluted with a thinner (10% volume) then sprayed onto the surfaces evenly. Drying time is approximately 5 - 7 hours at 20 C. A fully cured in 7 days. Minimum coating thickness ranges between 100- 125 microns) thickness may vary to a higher microns depending on the application method).

Selecting the right Tray for your Cables

Using the Chart to determine your Cable Trays width and Side height, Hint 1- To determine the Cross Section area of the Cable, Use the (2 r)2 formula instead of r2. 2- Find out the total Cross-Section by adding all Cables 3- Allow a 20% extra for expansion 4- Select the largest Cross-Section in making your selection Note: This Practical Table does not restrict you from choosing your own sizes.
