Montage
An insperational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

Description:

I started out doing research for my project by looking for pictures and a quote. I then added the pictures to Photoshop and resized and cropped them to how I wanted them. I then applied a desaturation and a sharpen filter to one of the pictures. Next I used a mask to gradually blend the one into the other. Then I created the text its all about team effort for the quote and fixed the fonts and colors till they were the way I wanted them. Finally I added value to the background picture to make the text stand out.

Objectives:

Logos
Three logo variations for the same company.

Description: Process:

Using Adobe Illustrator, I started out by using the pen, pathfinder, and direct selection tools to draw the AK-47. I then took it and added the text above it to create to bottom logo. I then created text for the middle logo and took the AK-47 symbol and made it smaller and replaced the l with it. I then, using the same tools as before, drew both the pistol and the grenade to replace the dot of the i and the r. Then for the third logo I created the text, putting the word pictures in white inside of a black box. I then drew the bullet holes, using mostly the ellipse tool and the star tool with some tweaks using the direct select tool. I copy and pasted them all over the word assault. Then with lots of tweaks and adjustments along the way, I was done.

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Objectives:

Letterhead
Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

Description:

I started by a logo in Illustrator by using the pen tool to draw a grenade and adding it to the text Assault Pictures. After doing so, I sized it and put it at the top of the letterhead and used the same fonts to create the contact information on the other side. I then drew a dotted line to visually connect the two. I then took the grenade symbol and blew it up and turned down the opacity to create the watermark. This finished the letterhead.

Objectives:

Business Card
Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo.

Description:

I used all of the same elements that I had already created for my letterhead. The logo was created in Illustrator by using the pen tool to draw a grenade and adding it to the text Assault Pictures. I then just positioned the logo, contact information, dashed line and grenade symbol onto a 3.5 X 2 box and placed them correctly so that there was branding and consistency in the front and back of the business card and the letterhead.

Objectives:

Brochure
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Description: Process:

I first took a blank piece of paper and started to fold and sketch out how I wanted to project to look. After I figured that out, I went into InDesign and started to roughly place all of the elements on the page. I then went into Photoshop and edited all of the pictures to look the way that I wanted them to using filters and masks. I then began to edit my body text to get the fonts, sizes, colors, and text wrapping that I wanted. Next I added the background colors. After a lot of tweaking here and there to make it look exactly how I wanted, I was done.

Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images.

Flier
Black & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

Description:

First I sketched out my designs and narrowed my choices down from four to one. I then inserted all of my elements into the flier and put them roughly where they needed to go. I did my best to align things well and create a good contrast and proximity of elements. I made little changes here and there till it was pretty much how I wanted it to look and feel. Then in class received ideas and advice from fellow classmates that proved invaluable. After making those changes and adding a few new ideas and changes of my own I ended up with a complete design.

Objectives:

Event Ad
A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Description:

I scanned an image of a snowboarder out of my Steez magazine. I placed the images into Microsoft Word. I cropped and color corrected the image within Word. I then created three triangles and inserted them into the ad to make them look like mountains and added a shadow to make them stand out on the page. I then created the title using a rectangle to give contrast to my design. I chose to use a decorative font for the title to give a snowy feel. I then added the rest of my important textual information and arranged them, and the images, to give the page a good alignment and flow. There are a lot of features that make Microsoft Word an easy, beginner program to create a visual design. I was surprised at how much I could do with the hidden design features of Microsoft Word. Now I know that I can use it in a pinch.

Objectives:

Web Page
A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.

Description: Process:

I first had to learn how to use html/css. I then wrote all the text that I wanted for the design (330 words). I took the pre-made text and started to change them and try and fix them to match the requirments for the project. I made the layout and format in the html document. I put all of my content into it including my logo and text on how I created the logo. I then took the pre-made css document that was given to us and began to change the style of my html content to add design principles such as flow, contrast, and repetition of matching the colors to my logo. I then linked the two documents and after a few tweaks and corrections, I was done.

Objectives:

i maging
A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop. While doing a video shoot with my friend that is a professional snowboarder, I used my Canon XA10 video camera with to take some videos and photos of him. I used a fish eye lens, because I liked the way that it blurred the outside edges giving the photo a sort of dreamlike feel. I put the picture into Photoshop and I began editing it by tweaking some of the coloring. I ended up totally desaturating the background trees and snow, somewhat desaturating the gear and snowboard in the background, and saturating his jacket, pants, and snowboard pretty heavily. I also added a filter on him and some of the gear in the background using a dialed down plastic wrap filter to make it all pop and stand out. 2/6/13 Comm 130 Section 05 Eric Lybbert
