Term 1 Talking and Listening Evaluations Week 5 Students compiled a list of good speaker qualities and made a chart.

This began as a group task but was reflected and discussed as a whole group. Students developed a better understanding on the qualities of a good speaker and the way we communicate. Students are practicing being more attentive and more engaged with a speaker. Students discussed the qualities of a good audience and responded well to their peers. Students emphasised listening and having eye contact to be the most significant roles of the audience. 2A discussed open ended questioning and practiced asking more interesting questions. Students were keen to extend their questions. This was also linked to the HSIE topic Families: Past and Present. Students were encouraged to bring in some artifacts that are considered to be significant to their families. Students answered the following questions: 1. What is the artifact and who did it belong to? 2. Why is this artifact important? Students were introduced to topic talks. As a whole group, students discussed the topic the beach and compiled their ideas as a class. Students seemed to be very engaged in this task, as it was a familiar topic. 2A also discussed some questions that would assist in their writing such as: Who visits this place? Why is it important? What can you do there? When can you visit? This was closely linked to the W questions, which are included in the orientation of a recount (what, where, when and who). This definitely improved students writing. Students were assigned with a topic card. Students were given 10 minutes to record their ideas and statements. 2A seemed eager to write their topic talks and share their ideas during reflection. 2A is developing confidence in the
