larias dussumieri dussumieri is a critically endangered fish endemic to Peninsular India and more predominantly in rivers of Central Kerala. This species is reported to be have very restricted occurrence in Kerala Goa, Karnataka and Pondicherry. It is a highly important food fish, classified as vulnerable; although in reality it has become a critically endangered species of great concern. In this study population of Clarias dussumieri dussumieri from different geographical locations was compared by using RAPD marker. Ten decamer oligonucleotide primers were chosen and used in a comparative analysis of Clarias dussumieri

dussumieri from different genetic stocks. The number of polymorphic bands scored per primer ranged from 2 to 8. Dendrogram were constructed using UPGMA algorithm based on the similarity index values. The present study shows that the RAPDs provide a useful tool for assessing genetic diversity of this rare, endemic species and for resolving relationships among populations. This study helps for assessment of the genetic structure, diversity and inter-relationship of the selected species, which is very important from the point of view of their utilization in conservation and management plan of these critically endangered species.
