Lesson Plan for Art Education Majors


Title: Light Narrative Lesson- Free Choice Media Description: Students will use their choice to of media to convey a meaningful narrative.

The narrative can be personal, global, internal, or imagined.

Behavioral Objectives/Essential Questions (3-5): Students will understand the value of the narrative in art. Students will address concepts of atmosphere, tone, shadows, abstract thinking, representation, and various challenges presented by their choice of media. Pennsylvania State Academic Standards: 9.1.12 A Visual Arts: balance contrast emphasis/focal point movement/rhythm proportion/scale repetition unity/harmony 9.1.12B Visual Arts: paint draw craft sculpt print design for environment, communication, multi-media 9.1.12 C C. Integrate and apply advanced vocabulary to the arts forms. 9.1.12. E E. Delineate a unifying theme through the production of a work of art that reflects skills in media processes and techniques. Modifications for Individual Differences:
Individual modifications for impaired learners will vary on an individual basis.

Materials and/or Equipment:


Materials will vary depending upon student choice of media.

Preparation:

Students will journal and brainstorm ideas for a story or concept they feel needs to be told.

Anticipatory Set: Students will brainstorm ideas and jot down a quick summary of the narrative/story/scene they want to convey. We will discuss potential challenges and problems that will need to be solved through the process. Student Work Time: Students will work in their chosen media for one week. Individual conferences will be held daily. Closure: Students will participate in a final critique. Journal ideas: How does light affect mood? What would the world be like without light? What about if it never got dark? How do our psychological perceptions of light and dark affect our choices?
