Lesson Plan for Art Education Majors


Title: Inspiration Spark Description: Students will use chalk pastel and color theory to illustrate what inspires them in this opening activity.

Behavioral Objectives/Essential Questions (3-5): Which colors are warm/cool? How can we use the color gradient to illustrate light? How am I unique? What inspires me? Where does inspiration come from? Pennsylvania State Academic Standards: 9.1.12 A Visual Arts: balance contrast emphasis/focal point movement/rhythm proportion/scale repetition unity/harmony 9.1.12B Visual Arts: paint draw craft sculpt print design for environment, communication, multi-media 9.1.12 C C. Integrate and apply advanced vocabulary to the arts forms. 9.1.12. E E. Delineate a unifying theme through the production of a work of art that reflects skills in media processes and techniques. Materials and/or Equipment:


Black paper White charcoal pencil Chalk pastels

Preparation:

Bulletin board will be set up and ready to go prior to student arrival. Materials will also be readily available.

Anticipatory Set: 1. Introduce the idea of spark lessons. Illustrate importance of filing away for future inspiration. 2. Pass out materials/instruct students to retrieve them. 3. Demonstrate shading/luminary techniques. 4. Explain color families and complementary colors Student Work Time: Closure: Students will share their story summaries and show off their book covers in a Life Library within the classroom Journal ideas:
