1) Heck Tate has many work related relationships and friendships because he is the sheriff of Maycomb. He knows most of the residents living in town, due to the fact that he must be present at all problems and issues occurring in the town. Heck is also close friends with Atticus. They conversed about the trial. He also went to Mr. Finch when he needed someone to shoot the mad dog.

Similarities: 1) Both characters worked in the Justice System. 2) Their efforts in the story made it evident that Atticus and Heck Tate were willing to help anyone that was in need in Maycomb. 3) Both Finch and Tate were well known around the town.

Differences: 1) Atticus was more loyal to the laws. Heck Tate was more willing to twist the truth with occurrences that went against the law. For Example: Heck made up a story regarding Bob Ewells death. He did this so Arthur Radley would remain an innocent man, even if he was responsible for the crime. Also, although Heck knew that Tom Robinson was not guilty, he did not stand up for him. By doing this he did not fulfill his duties as sheriff because he failed to bring justice to Toms case. 2) Atticus was a braver and more just man.

INTERESTING FACTS:
Heck Tate failed as a sheriff many times in the story. In several insistences he was a coward. For example: He was not willing to protect Atticus or Tom, when he heard that the Cunninghams planned to kill Tom. At the end of the story, he realized that the law isnt always right. He brought justice to Arthur Radley by not arresting him for killing Bob Ewell.
