Once it snows in Maycomb, Jem and Scout make a snowman at Miss Maudies yard. The snowman was of Mr.Dick Avery because he was overweight. There was not enough snow, so

Jem thought of using dirt as in the inside and using snow to cover the rest up. This could symbolize Jem trying to cover up a black man and showing that its the same as a white man, that all humans are the same. Once the fire melts the snowman, it symbolizes how prejudice people of the county are. Knowing that, people of the count definitely do not see blacks and whites the same.
