CYCLE TEST I II

Date: 02 .03.2013 Year/Sem: II/IV

Answer All the Questions

Dept: AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING Sub: Strength Of Materials

PART A

Marks: 25 Duration: 45 Minutes

(5X2=10)

1. Define Torsion.. 2. Write Torsional equation and fomula for torque transmitted by hollow shaft.. 3. Define Torsional rigidity 4. What is the power Transmtted by circular shaft subjected to a torque of 700kN-m at 110rpm.. 5. A circular shaft of 50mm diameter transmits a torque of 10kN-m. find the maximum Shear stress induced in the shaft.
Answer All the Questions PART B (15)

6. Find the diameter of a solid shaft to transmit 90kW at 160 rpm, such that the shear stress is limited to 60N/mm2 . the maximum torque is likely to exceed the mean by 20%. Also find the length of the shaft if the twist is not to exceed 1 degree over the entire length. Take modulus of rigidity as 0.8 X 105 N/mm2 (8) 7. A solid shaft is subjected to a torque of 1.6kN-m, find the necessary diameter of the shaft, if the allowable shear stress is 50Mpa. Allowable twist is 10 for every 20 diameter length(l=20d) of the shaft. Take C= 8Gpa. (7)
