Q.1 Attempt any two from the following: (2x5 =10) Level
A Write advantages of V belt over Flat belt belt. Remember/ CO1

B Derive an expression for length of crossed belt drive. Describe/ CO1

C A 100 mm wide and 10 mm thick belt transmits 5kW of power Apply/ CO1
between two parallel shafts. The distance between shaft centers
is 1.5 m and diameter of smaller pulley is 440 mm. The driving
and the driven shaft rotate at 60 rpm and 150 rpm respectively.
Find the stress in the belt if the pulleys are connected by an
open belt drive. Take μ = 0.22
Q.2 Attempt any two from the following: (2x5 =10)
A Explain the terms path of contact, arc of contact and line of Remember/ CO2
action with neat sketch.
B Compare involute and cycloidal teeth profile. Remember/ CO2

C A shaft runs at 80 rpm and drives another shaft at 150 rpm Apply/ CO1
through the belt drive. The diameter of the driving pulley is
600 mm. Determine the diameter of the driven pulley in
following cases i) neglecting belt thickness, ii) taking belt
thickness as 5 mm & iii) belt thickness as 5mm and total slip of
4%.
Q.3 Attempt any two from the following: (2x5 =10)

A State and derive the law of gearing. Describe/ CO2

B What is meant by interference in the involute gear? Explain. Describe/ CO2

C A pinion having 30 teeth drives a gear having 80 teeth. The Apply/ CO2
profile of the gear is involute with 20° pressure angle, 12 mm
module and 10 mm addendum. Calculate the length of path of
contact and arc of contact.
