Design and desk/work Of the specific categories, design and desk/work area attracted by far the most comments

(each at around 10 per cent of the total number received), followed by storage, noise, and lighting. Over half the comments on desk/work area were negative and most of these were about insufficient space, a factor which had also scored on the low side. Comments on storage were predominantly negative, with around 80 per cent of those commenting on this aspect finding there was not enough. Design, comfort overall, and lighting overall attracted almost equal numbers of positive and negative comment. No common issues emerged other than the occurrence of glare in the early morning and late afternoon, but some of that appeared to have been mitigated by the installation of blinds, according to some of the comments. Nearly 90 per cent of the comments about noise were negative issues included other people conversing with each other and on the telephone, cell phones ringing, noise from adjacent breakout areas and kitchen, and footfalls on the wooden internal stairs for those nearby. In this connection, it should be noted that the scores for noise were all on the low side too. Nearly half of the participants had made comments about things that worked well in the building, and around half of these comments related to the respondents enhanced ability to readily interact and communicate with colleagues. Over 70 per cent of participants noted various hindrances both noise and workspace issues were raised most frequently here too, reinforcing the comments already made under these particular headings, and their respective scores. Glare from direct sunlight was again mentioned, echoing the comments on this aspect, though not the score; while lack of temperature control was also noted, in this case, echoing the scores for temperature variability in both winter and summer.
