Keep Louisiana Beautiful Recognizes Keep St. John the Baptist Parish Beautiful as Januarys Affiliate of the Month
KLB honors affiliates throughout the state Baton Rouge, La. Keep St. John the Baptist Parish Beautiful (KSJB) has been named Januarys Affiliate of the Month, by Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), the states nonprofit organization dedicated to litter prevention, waste reduction, and community improvement. KSJB was selected as Affiliate of the Month in recognition of its outstanding efforts during Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day and for its consistent ability to engage the community in all KSJB programs. We appreciate the opportunities we have had to partner with KLB and KAB during the last 13 years, Tom Daley, KSJB chairman, said. The partnership has provided us with resources to assist in the beautification efforts in St. John the Baptist Parish. In addition to combating litter, KSJB has made it a point to help prevent hazardous materials from entering the waterways and natural environment. One of KSJB most successful events in 2012 was its Household Hazardous Materials Collection. Various materials were accepted and properly disposed or recycled including tires, batteries, household cleaning products, scrap metal and major appliances and electronics. KSJB plans to continue educating the community about the importance of recycling, not littering and keeping their city a beautiful place to live, to play and to work, and involve them through hands-on activities. KSJB is currently in the process of encouraging its parish government to place more recycling bins throughout the parish. They also host meetings to coordinate KLB and KSJB efforts between the Sherriffs department, parish government and The Department of Transportation and Development. Keep St. John the Baptist Parish Beautiful has remained one of our most active KLB affiliates over the past 13 years, Leigh Harris, Executive Director of KLB, said. Their ability to engage their community has been impressive and shown to have made a huge impact. KLB honors affiliate organizations throughout the state each month to recognize their progress.
