Floods
Floods are the most frequent natural hazard in Canada. They can occur at any time of the year and are most often caused by heavy rainfall, rapid melting of a thick snow pack, ice jams, or more rarely, the failure of a natural or man-made dam.

Causes Of Floods
Floods are an excess of water that covers land that is normally dry.

This can be due dam or levee failures, more rain than the landscape can dispose of, torrential rains caused by storms, rapid snow melts, or a blocked river.

Droughts
In simple terms, a drought is a period of unusually dry weather that persists long enough to cause environmental or economic problems, such as crop damage and water supply shortages. But because dry conditions develop gradually and impact different regions differently, there's no agreed upon way to pinpoint when a drought begins or ends, or to objectively assess its severity.

Causes Of Droughts
Droughts are caused by a lack of precipitation in an area resulting from weak or less frequent storms and other weather systems than normal. Most major droughts last for months or years. What is considered a drought in a rainy location may be enough precipitation for another region.

Earthquake
