3. Students should be following along while reading and taking notes in their journals. They will be required to list 5 interesting facts they learned from the reading. 4. Next we will do the Picture Writing activity. I will read over the instructions and then answer any questions the students may have. Ask questions as an ongoing check for understanding Focus on these questions: What kind of environment did the Plains Indians live in? What were the tribes included in the Plains Indians? What kind of shelter did they have and why? Did they stay in one place or did they travel and why? What are three uses of the buffalo? 6. Closure: Discuss key characteristics of the Plains Indians. I will review the information learned and assess whether the class grasped the information G. Assessment: To assess the students understanding I will have them journal about the lesson. They will have to write their entry in the perspective of a Great Plains Indian. They must include four things we learned about their daily lives. I will know whether the students understand the concepts taught by observing them while doing the lesson and by what I read in their journals. This piece measures students understanding because the students have free reign to create the life of Great Plains Indians based on the information learned.
