Summer Job Opportunities


Upward Bound Program will be looking to hire teachers for the summer. We are looking for Foreign Language, Math, and Science Teachers. * This is a 5 week assignment beginning June 17, 2013 and ending July 19, 2013; 2 hours of classroom instruction, 5 days a week for the duration of the program; mandatory orientation on June 8 (10:00am to 12:00 pm) and teacher meetings every Friday from 12:30 am to 1:00pm (lunch will be provide during meetings) Upward Bound is an intense academic, social, and cultural experience for high school students. The purpose of the program is to assist first generation college bound high school students to prepare for and succeed in post-secondary education. Job Description Provide Instruction to 10th, 11th, and/or 12th grade participants during the Upward Bound Summer Program Assist participants and program staff to establish, and maintain acceptable classroom behavior and standards. Communicate regularly with Program Director and Academic Advisor to ensure the academic development of participants. Assess and report on participants progress by administering a pre and post assessment instrument(s). Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director. Minimum Qualifications: Experience teaching high school students (9th through 12th grades). Current teaching credential Experience working with low-income and diverse student populations. EDUCATION: Bachelors degree or Masters Degree LAUSD employee preferred Experience working with low-income first, generation high school students Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support student activities Day/hours and duration of job: Approximately 5 weeks Employment start date: June 17, 2013 to July 19, 2013 Working hours: 2 hours plus one hour compensation for preparation Hourly Rate: $25 or DOE How to Apply: Email a cover letter and rsum to: gutie2@usc.edu Adriana Gutierrez Deadline: May 17, 2013
