Haptics, is the technology of adding the sensation of touch and feeling to computers.
A haptic device gives people a sense of touch with computer-generated environments, so that when virtual objects are touched, they seem real and tangible.

Understanding and enabling a compelling experience of Presence not limited to "being there", but extended to "being in touch" with remote or virtual surroundings.

Sense of touch has 2 groups of receptors

It is attached to a base that replaces the mouse mat and contains the motors used to provide forces back to the user.

Cyber Glove can sense the position and movement of the fingers and wrist.

The Cyber Grasp is a full hand forcefeedback exo skeletal device, which is worn over the Cyber Glove.

The PHANTOM provides single point, 3D force- feedback to the user via a stylus (or thimble) attached to a moveable arm

Improves Brachy theraphy by increasing seed distribution accuracy.

Patients interact with virtual worlds by feel.

Measures forces and torques. Determines Dof forces.

Mobiles more useful. Games more electrifying. Automobile controls-more intuitive. Medical training simulators-more effective.

Digital world can behave like real world

Working time is reduced Medical field simulator allow surgeons to practice digitally

The precision of touch require a lot of advance design Haptic technology require high specification Hardware and considerable processing power and hence its complex Haptic project rely on fixed installation of equipment and are not easily portable Debugging issues

Future for online computing & E-commerce. Part of a Persons normal computer interaction. Haptic is the future for online computing and e-commerce, it will enhance the shopper experience and help online shopper to feel the merchandise without leave their home. Haptic devices must be smaller so that they are lighter, simpler and easier to use.
