JULIA PASTRANA.

Im going to talk about Julia Pastrana, also known as the ugliest woman in the world. You have heard of her before, havent you? Pastrana an indigenous woman from Mexico was born in 1834, in Ocoroni in the sierra of Sinaloa State. She had two rare diseases undiagnosed in her lifetime: Hypertrichosis Lanuginosa Terminalis; that is, her face and body were covered with thick and black hair; and gingival hyperplasia, her ears and nose were unusually large, and an irregular double set of teeth, from the redundancy of the teeth, her mouth projected and her face had a gorilla like appearance. A Mexican customs administrator bought Pastrana in 1854 and began showing her throughout the United States and Canada. In New York Julia met Theodore Lent who thought her to dance and play music, she could write and speak in three languages, and English, French and Spanish, then he became her manager. She was in love with Mr. Lent and they got married. Lent toured his wife throughout Europe, with the name Bearded and hairy lady. In 1859 Pastrana became pregnant by Lent, during a tour in Moscow, she gave birth to a baby who inherited her hypertrichosis, the child survived only three days, and Pastrana died of postpartum complications five days later. Lent didnt abandon the tour, had his wife and son mummified and displayed in a glass cabinet. He later found another woman with similar features, married her and named her Zenora Pastrana. He was becoming wealthy from her exhibition. He was committed to a Russian mental institution, where he died, and the mummies disappeared from public view. Vandals broke into the storage facility in August 1976 and mutilated the babys mummy; the remains were consumed by mice. Julias mummy was stolen in 1979, after the body was reported to police but not identified, until 1990 and had rested at the Department of Anatomy, Oslo University Sciences decided to keep them, so scientist could perform research. The last week on Tuesday , more than a century and a half after her death in 1860, the women, Julia Pastrana, finally is given a proper burial near her birthplace, in the historic pantheon Sinaloa de Leyva with hundreds of wallflowers, the bands played las golondrinas and Ave Mara. Her return home would not have been possible without the nearly decade long efforts of the visual artist Laura Anderson Barbata. The governor said: that was an act of justice for history and humanity. Hopefully, once and for all, she could rest in peace.

Julia Pastrana
song performed by Ass Ponys in the album

Poor woman the people exclaimed When Julia Pastrana was first shown They marveled and pitied her fate Covered with dark hair from top to toe But she was of exceptional mind And a suitor soon asked for her hand She accepted the proposal in kind Despite the misgivings of good friends She said he loves me for my own sake

They were married and traveled the states And soon they were blessed with a child But he suffered his poor mother's fate And lived but only a short while And poor Julia was injured inside And soon followed her son to the grave Her husband had them mummified And toured until he went insane

She said he loves me for my own sake
