Teachers know their Students Standard 3: Evidence 1

School: Creswick Primary School Grade: Prep/1 Description/Context: This lesson was a Reading lesson focusing on Verbs. At this particular school they had a real focus on establishing expectations so therefore the implementation of writing LI/SC and LB on the board at the start of lessons was really reinforced. This I also felt help me create a positive connection with the children, as they knew what was expected and the goals for the lesson. This I believe also helped in me developing my rapport with them.

Key: LI: Learning Intentions SC: Success Criteria LB: Learning Behaviours Chn: Children

By discussing the LI/SC/LB at the beginning of the lesson it gives children the expectations early. Therefore, when they did become a bit noisy I stopped the class so as to remind them of the specific learning Behaviours. Furthermore, the learning behaviours were also done in collaboration with the class as I asked them to tell me what behaviours they think are needed to be successful learners. This was something that my associate teachers had reinforced throughout the year. This evidence demonstrates my ability to model exemplary behaviours through not only establishing LI/SC and Learning behaviours at the commencement of the lesson, but also the below evidence from my teacher. This reinforces that my classroom management methods involved reinforcing exemplary behaviours. Both the above evidence and the comment from my teacher below in my final report, demonstrate that I am using strategies such as the LI/SC/LB at the start of class, positive praise and reinforcement.
