Scace, a challenge to man. A general definition of space is the area outside our planet, that is further from our atmosphere or even the Solar System. The Solar System is formed by the Sun. the nine planets around it and their natural satellites. asteroids, comets and meteors. The nine planets in the Solar System are Mercury, Venus. Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune Pluto. The Solar System is in the Milky Way galaxy. There are are millions of other galaxies with millions of stars in them. From our planet, we can see 8000 (eight thousand) stars, but because of the atmospheric fog we can only see 2000 (two thousand at night) Man can design wonderful machines that can fly up into space: rockets and space shuttles. A shuttle is like an airplane that reaches into space, transporting man to different missions, Yuri Gagarin, a Russian cosmonaut was the first . man in space. He orbited the Earth in the Vostok rocket n 1961. Neil Armstrong and Edwn Aldrin, American astronauts, were the first men to walk on the Moon. They could get to the Moon in Apollo 11 and walked for two hours. Some of the many missions were to put satellites in orbit and some to do research. The Mir Russian Staton orbited in space from 1986 to 2001. It was a research staon that performed observations and experiments, but basically recorded Information on life in space. 1.
